Ibliss - Supernova
4/9/2009
Ibliss were formed in 1971 by Basil Hammoudi (percussion, flute) an ex member of the pre-Kraftwerk organization, Andreas Hohmann (drums and percussion) who was one of the two drummers performing on the first Kraftwerk LP, Rainer Buechel (saxophone, flute), Wolfgang Buellmeyer (guitar, percussion) and Norbert Buellmeyer (percussion, bass).
One year later they released their first and only LP consisting of four long length instrumental tracks. Although the “Supernova” explosion took place on 1972, its blinding light surfaced years later, exposing another hidden diamond to the fans of German rock.
Basically, the LP is full of rhythm with “Margah”, “Drops” and “High Life” being small pieces of jazz-rock artwork infused with latin-jazz rhythms, though always within the boundaries of the general Krautrock philosophy. The peak of the album comes with “Athir” with the flute making the listener drift to faraway places.
Since it was recently re-released on CD, fusion rock followers should not let this one pass them by.
